CONDUCTING
A conductor of notable breadth, Robin has directed choirs and orchestras throughout Scotland, working with musicians of all ages, and with amateurs and professionals.
He began conducting as an undergraduate, studying on successive summer schools in the Czech Republic with the aid of university travel scholarships and working with the Kroměříž Festival Orchestra and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic. As musical director of several choral societies and choirs in the Central Belt, Robin garnered a reputation for innovative programmes, which took in everything from Bach and Mozart to the Beach Boys and Maxwell Davies. Among the groups he conducted are Cunninghame Choir, Eastwood Choral Society, and Cumbernauld Choir, and in performances of large-scale works for voices and orchestra, he collaborated with musicians from Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

After moving to the Highlands, Robin became involved with a number of groups. He has been with the remarkable community orchestra The Ness Sinfonia since 2017, and is also musical director of Cairngorms Orchestra and conductor of Highland Chamber Orchestra. In addition to regular concert projects with these groups, he has led Come-and-Sing choral evensong and jazz mass services at Inverness Cathedral, and conducts all-day orchestral play-through events throughout the year. |
